Nowadays, it’s all too easy to get wrapped up in all of the design crazes when planning a wedding. Still, often the absolute best weddings are those that stick with classic, timeless elements, and it is just all about celebrating the love of a bride and groom and celebrating with their friends and family. Today, we share one of these gorgeous days that Amanda from Bruce Loves Susie captured recently.
As you scroll through the images, pay particular attention to the bride’s dress made by her mother – how truly special!!!
How did you meet?
LJ and I met at a friend’s 21st birthday. I felt this instant attraction, but I had to leave the party, and unfortunately, we didn’t exchange numbers. He just happened to work with the friend I was at the party with, so my friend eventually gave LJ my number.
How was the bride proposed to?
We were in Thailand on holiday, and LJ was determent to find this bar (After Beach Bar). His mate had told him about that overlooked KataBeach – it was extremely beautiful. After lunch, he got on the corner of the chair (lol!) and popped the question.
Can you briefly describe your wedding?
We went for the vintage, lace and romance theme. It was such a magical day with all our very special friends and family surrounding us. I couldn’t sleep the night before; I was full of nerves and excitement and went outside so many times during the night and early hours of the morning to check on the weather! But the day was perfect and went so smoothly. It truly was the happiest day of my life, marrying the man of my dreams in front of all our amazing friends and family.
Tell us about the planning of your wedding?
Once we got back from Thailand and decided exactly when we wanted to get married, it was full steam ahead organizing our big day! The planning was so much fun, even if a little stressful at times. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have my amazing mum who made my wedding dress – ever since I was a little girl, that’s what I’ve always dreamed of. We did all the flower arrangements ourselves. I chose cupcakes for the ‘cake’ and cake pops for gifts, which went with the theme beautifully.
When and where was the wedding?
Our wedding day was 3 November 2012, with the ceremony at the Benowa Botanical Gardens and reception at Evergreen Pavilion Restaurant (both on the Gold Coast).
Tell us about the photographer?
Our photographer Amanda was and is amazing!! She was extremely professional and enthusiastic and made us both feel so special. We both cannot wait to have another special occasion that Amanda can make into special memories.
Tell us about your reception venue?
When my husband and I looked at venues, he suggested Evergreen Pavilion Restaurant for our reception. We wanted to have the ceremony and reception fairly close to each other. Evergreen was fantastic. It’s a garden-type setting that brings the outside and inside together nicely.
Tell us about the special moments of the day?
Having my gorgeous sister and very special friend by my side; arriving at the ceremony and having the first man I ever loved waiting for me; my amazing dad walking me down the aisle; seeing all of our beautiful friends and family in the crowd; all of this meant the world to me. The whole day was just magical.
What were some of the things that made your wedding special to you?
Having my amazing grandparents, there was very special to both of us. They don’t live on the Gold Coast, so I don’t get to see them often, and every moment I can spend with them is precious.
Any advice for brides planning their wedding?
Make sure you enjoy every bit of planning your big day, and on your special day, make sure you take in every moment!! Also, LJ and I felt that the engagement session we did with Amanda (our photographer) helped us relax in front of the camera on the actual wedding day (we were pros at it by then!!)
